Hand therapy combines comprehensive knowledge with specialized skills in the assessment and treatment of the upper extremity. Our goal is to restore functional use by increasing range of motion and strength as well as improving sensation and decreasing pain. Our occupational/hand therapists have over 30 years of combined experience in the treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries, from complex traumatic injuries to cumulative trauma disorders.

Various diagnoses treated in the hand clinic include:

• repetitive motion injures such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and DeQuervain’s Syndrome
• fractures of the hand and upper extremity
• upper extremity amputations
• tendon and nerve injuries
• joint replacements
• arthritis

Treatment may include, but is not limited to:

• custom splint fabrication
• specific functional and goal-oriented exercises to restore motion and strength of the upper extremity
• home program instruction and patient education
• scar management
• wound care
• ergonomic education and joint protection techniques
• sensory re-education/desensitization activities
